JOB VACANCIES AT HOMAWASCO

Homa-Bay County Water and Sanitation Company Limited (HOMAWASCO) was incorporated on 27th June, 2007 in accordance with the Water Act 2002 later repealed by the Water Act 2016. The Company is wholly owned by the County Government of Homa Bay and regulated by the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB). HOMAWASCO is mandated to provide clean Water & Sanitation services to the residents of Homa Bay County.

Job Title:

  1. Managing Director (1 position)

Job Summary

Managing Director will report to the Board of Directors; the Managing Director is the Principal Accounting officer of the company and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Offering effective strategic plan/leadership to achieve corporate objectives and attain key performance targets.
  2. Ensuring safe custody and management of company’s assets.
  3. Planning, coordinating and implementing all activities of the company in line with the policies and directives approved by the Board of Directors
  4. Ensuring proper management, operational efficiency and corporate reporting requirement of the company
  5. Promoting the company’s image and developing a good working relationship with all stakeholders and partners,
  6. Ensuring compliance with Government policies and regulations.
  7. Developing and maintaining a conducive working environment for attracting, retaining and motivating employees.
  8. Fostering a corporate culture that promotes best ethical practices and good corporate citizenship.
  9. Effective day to day management and ensuring continuous development of the capacity and competence of the Company’s staff
  10. Ensuring that there is effective communication between the management and the Board of Directors as well as between different levels of management
  11. Anticipating technological and other important developments and/or potential risk and formulating relevant policies for approval by the Board of Directors
  12. Ensuring compliance with /License conditions as provided by (WASREB)
  13. Any other responsibilities as may be necessary to achieve the company’s objectives

JOB QUALIFICATION

 The candidate should have;

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university in the field of Engineering and Business Management.
  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Business or in Engineering field.
  •  At least 10(ten) years working experience, 5 (five) of which must be in water sector.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, Problem solving skills, Project Management and data analysis, proposal writing and ICT skills.
  • Leadership and team building skills.
  • A registered member of a professional body.
  • Demonstrable compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity

Key Skills and Competences:

  • Must have basic Accounting software and any other ERP software skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and creativity
  • Excellent inter-personal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong management and organization skills
  • Proven people management skills

2. Finance Manager (1 position)

Job Summary

Finance Manager will report to the Managing Director; the Finance Manager formulate and implement sound financial accounting policies, procedures and systems that will ensure prudent usage of financial resources of the Company.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. To be the Head of Finance department and guide personnel within the department as per the HR-Manual.
  2. Preparation of timely financial reports as per IFRS and as per public financial management Act and present the report to Management/Board.
  3. Preparing yearly financial reports for Audit and periodic Treasury reports.
  4. Prepare budgets and develop long term business strategic & operating plans.
  5. Ensure you execute all mandatory approvals to the relevant departments as per the ERP System for efficiency.
  6. Coordinating the development and circulation of corporate budget to management/Board.
  7. Implement financial controls by ensuring spending is in line with the budget and ensuring prudent cash flow management.
  8. Identifying incidences of non-compliance with laid down financial systems, financial risks and recommend on improvement plans.
  9. Analyzing financial performance and contributing to medium and long-term organizational planning/forecasts on a monthly/quarterly basis.
  10. Recommending ways to reduce costs and increase profits
  11. Any other duty that maybe assigned to you by MD/Board.

JOB QUALIFICATION

 The candidate should have;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounts from a recognized institution
  • Master’s degree in Finance or related field is an added advantage.
  • CPA (K) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Seven (7) years relevant experience, three (3) of which must be in senior management.
  • A member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)
  • Demonstrated a high degree of professional competence and administrative capability as reflected in work performance and results
  • Must have experience in ERP System and other Accounting software like sage, quick books and ERP
  • Meets the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya

COMMERCIAL INTERNS (10 POSTS

Minimum Qualification.

  • Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in any of the following discipline: Business administration/Marketing/Accounting/Finance/CPA Part III Sec 5.
  • Be proficient in computer skills.
  • Must not have benefited from a similar program.
  • Must have completed training and graduated with documentary proof of qualification (Degree/ Diploma Certificate)
  • Age limit from 20yrs-28 yrs.

TECHNICAL INTERNS (10 POSTS)

Minimum Qualification.

  • Bachelor’s degree/ Diploma in Civil Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Water Engineering, Analytical Chemistry/Biochemistry.

INTERNSHIP DURATION

  •  Six (6) months.

INTERNSHIP CERTIFICATE

On successful completion of the programme, the interns will be awarded a certificate.
